Privacy notice
This website presents consulting services, projects and forthcoming books. No account is needed. We do not use advertising trackers or analytics cookies. We do not set cookies for visitors. Your browser stores two items locally (localStorage): your choice if you pause or restart the animation on the home page (entry “argus-motion”) and the contents of your cart if you add books (entry “argus-cart”). The animation choice never leaves your device; the cart is only sent when you order. Both entries can be deleted in your browser settings.

Website delivery and security
Requests involve technically necessary connection data, including IP address, time, requested resource and browser information. This is needed to deliver and protect the website. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, with a legitimate interest in secure and reliable operation. The site is intended to run on an existing Contabo server. Production hosting configuration and processing agreements must be confirmed before public launch.
Visit statistics
When a page is opened, our server counts the visit. We store only the date, the page, the domain of the referring page and the device class (mobile or desktop). We use no IP addresses, cookies or other identifiers for this, so individual visitors cannot be recognised. The counts are deleted after 400 days. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is improving the website based on how it is used.
Contact enquiries
When you contact us, we process your name, email address, enquiry and message, and any optional organisation or project information. We use these details to respond. In addition to the email to our mailbox, we store the enquiry in our administration on our server and delete it there once it has been dealt with and no retention obligation applies. Article 6(1)(b) GDPR applies to contract-related enquiries; Article 6(1)(f) GDPR applies to other business enquiries. Please do not submit health data, passwords or confidential documents through the form.
Orders in the book shop
For an order we process the titles ordered, your name, your email address, the billing address, for printed books the delivery address and, if provided, your phone number and company. You enter these details on our order page. We pass them to Stripe for payment and invoicing. We use them for shipping, invoicing, e-book delivery and queries. Orders that are not paid are deleted after 30 days. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR, and Article 6(1)(c) GDPR for retention. We keep invoices and accounting records for the periods required by commercial and tax law, usually ten years.
Payments are processed by Stripe Payments Europe, Limited, 1 Grand Canal Street Lower, Dublin 2, Ireland. Only Stripe receives payment details such as card or account numbers; we do not. Information on Stripe’s data processing: stripe.com/de/privacy. If you choose PayPal, PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l. et Cie, S.C.A., 22-24 Boulevard Royal, L-2449 Luxembourg, also receives the data needed for the payment; PayPal’s privacy statement then also applies. For e-books we create personal download links and store the number of remaining downloads, the expiry date and the time of each download, but no IP address. Every delivered file contains an invisible identifier that we can match to your order; your name and email address are not in the file. This lets us trace unauthorised sharing. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is protecting our copyright and rights of use.
Abuse prevention
The form uses short-lived verification tokens and request limits. Connection identifiers are pseudonymised for rate limiting. These protections run on our server without external CAPTCHA services. Message contents must not be stored in technical logs.
Retention and recipients
Enquiries are sent to our business mailbox and retained only as required to deal with them, maintain a subsequent business relationship or meet statutory retention obligations. Hosting and email providers process data as technically necessary. Specific providers, retention periods and contract evidence are part of the release checks before public launch.
Your rights
Subject to the GDPR, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests on grounds relating to your particular situation. You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, including the data protection authority of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Fonts and website images are served locally. External project, university and publication sites are only opened when you follow a link. Their operators’ privacy notices apply there.
